Great podcast, thank you! I don’t suppose there are any women on the team? I was debating whether or not to bring my bicycle to Yemen. I have emailed the head of the Yemeni cycling federation (as listed on Wikipedia) but he is doing a PhD in Germany and says cycling for anybody is too dangerous, so I am relieved to listen to your post.
Since I am coming to Yemen soon I was also wondering if I could ask you some general questions about the country but totally understand if you rather not
Hey Karin…I think it would be a great idea to cycle in Yemen, but I think you might suffer the same as these guys. Saying that, Yemeni’s often just think foreigners are strange and therefore their behavior more acceptable/interesting.
Are you in touch with these guys? If they need $2-3,000 for the club (maybe more for bikes), I’d bet anything that a kickstarter or indiegogo fundraiser would almost certainly get them the money they need. I love cycling, and given that some cyclists spend thousands a year on equipment, I’m sure they could raise the money. If you can put me in touch, or would like to do this yourself, either way…but I’d love to see it happen!
Great story, I’ll be sure to follow you. My friend, Laura Kasinof has reported from Yemen for a while and it is an interesting place.

Email me with any more questions.
I would but can’t find an email address. Sorry.
